Southern Girl Event Review- The @ttic DC

I love poetry and hearing spoken work performed.  I used to dabble in some poetry during my younger years but have since given it up and am content with hearing it performed.  This weekend, I had the opportunity to attend “The @ttic-DC” which is now a quarterly spoken word event sponsored by Beny Blaq Entertainment.

I follow Beny Blaq on Twitter, who is a lil’ cutie if I may say so, and kept noticing when he pubbed for his event “The Attic” each month.  I would always be disappointed because each month when he had it I would have to work.  But as luck would have it, I was off this Friday and was able to attend.  I even had my auntie “Madeline” attend with me.  Despite the venue change, the place was PACKED! So much so, we had to stand.  Aside from that, we had a great time.  The featured poet, Sunni Patterson was amazing!  Her voice was so melodic and powerful.  Plus, she was speaking the truth.  I definitely plan on seeing her the next time she comes to the DMV…and I know about it! 🙂

Even though there was a lady who was holding two seats for her phantom friends most of the night, I plan on attending “The @ttic” again; I’ll just get there early!  Until next time, I’m just a Southern girl…in the city!
