How Dare You?

Over the past few weeks, I’ve heard of and come across certain stories that make me wonder, “What the heck were you thinking?!”  One of them is the story of Desmond Hatchett, a 33 year old Knoxville man that has fathered 30 (yes, you read correctly THIRTY) children with 11 different women.  Mr. Hatchett has asked the state of Tennessee to assist him in his child support payments because he can’t afford it anymore.  I not only blame him, I fault these women.  When I ventured into internet dating, a man messaged me that had 7 children.  I quickly deleted his message without responding and never looked back.  (Crazy thing, he also messaged my sorority sister (in a completely different state than me), too, but that’s a post for a different day.)  What made woman number 6 or 7 (let alone 10 and 11) think, “Oh, he’s a catch, he’s cute-let me go ahead and sleep with him”?  I swear, people are stupid.  I tell my friends this, but I’ll share this with you all, too.  People, America, my SGITC readers-think about the person you’re about to sleep with.  Could you see yourself having a child with this person?  Could you imagine this person being in your life forever?  If not, keep it in your pants!!!!  I honestly feel sorry for these children.  This has to be the most disgusting thing I’ve seen in a long, long time.

For my fellow “Basketball Wives”  viewers, how many of you all wanted to slap Kesha last week?  Yes, Tami was wrong and WAY out of order, but why was Kesha acting like a punk?  UGH!!! I was so disgusted watching that whole episode.  And now Tracey Edmonds (ex-Mrs. Babyface) and Shaunie want to put this mess on the big screen??? #icant  Who is going to pay to watch these chicks in a movie theater?  Not I.  I feel like these reality shows have gotten out of hand.  And to show how these little girls are looking up to these reality stars…I have started watching “Tanisha Gets Married”. (Don’t judge me.)  Tanisha was a cast member on “The Bad Girls Club” and has gone on to host the BGC reunions and other shows on Oxygen.  During last week’s episode, a little girl went up to Tanisha to get her autograph and told her, “When I grow up, I want to be on ‘The Bad Girls Club’.”  Tanisha quicky corrected the girl and say, “No, you don’t!”  Let this be a lesson to all little girls and young ladies in the world-even the women who are ignorant, crazy, and deranged on these shows want you to strive for more.

UPDATE: Can I also add that I’m quite perturbed that Tia Mowry AND Pooch Hall are leaving “The Game”???  So, I guess this means the show will have it’s last season next year.  It’s been real.

I’m not a lawyer (even though I had hopes of being one until I turned 23), but I don’t care what anybody says, George Zimmerman needs to stand trial.  If he had stayed in his car, Trayvon Martin might be alive today.  The media needs to let authorities do their job.  But I will say this will be tried in the case of public opinion before it gets to a courtroom.  And I know he has a family and other loved ones, but if your brother, son, husband, or whatever did something wrong, you need to let him know he was wrong-end of story.

That’s all I have for today.  Until next time, I’m just a Southern girl…in the city!

Black Television-The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Earlier today, I was all set to write about the Black sitcom and ask where it went.  But after a lunchtime discussion with my co-workers, I realized I underestimated a few of the shows that have Black stars that are currently on the air.  So, let’s begin this discussion.

The Good

“Hawthorne”- You know, the show starring Jada Pinkett-Smith that comes on TNT has its 3rd season premiere tonight.  I have to admit, I’ve never really watched this show, but I did catch the 2nd season finale when Christina told Tom that she was pregnant. (Yes, I had to look up the character names. #dontjudgeme)  I’ve always been a Jada fan, ever since her days as Lena James on “A Different World”, so I will make a conscious effort to watch the premiere tonight.

“The Game”- Despite horrible writing for its inaugural season on BET, “The Game” of the CW was a force to be reckoned with.  It was great writing and great acting with believable characters.  The fourth season left a lot to be desired, but hopefully the writers will see the error of their ways and step their game up for season 5.  The great thing about this show is that the fans stuck by the show and followed the characters to their new channel.  We should all touch and agree that “The Game” has a wonderful new season in the fall.

The Bad

“Braxton Family Values”- You all know I love reality television, but this show is a bit much.  It seems like the only person who has their life halfway in order is baby sister, Tamar, and for her to be spoiled, narcissistic, and bossy, that’s saying a lot.  Yes, Toni may be the more famous of her siblings, but she’s having financial troubles…again.  And after watching this clip of their mother go off on their dad, I see where the girls get their crazy antics from!  Now I know we all like a little messy, but the Braxtons put all of their dis-functionality (is that a word?) out for the world to see.

Any Tyler Perry sitcom- Now I know I have praised TP on this blog before, but I’ve also stated I don’t like his sitcoms.  They’re awful, but somebody’s watching them.  I don’t think I really need to say too much more.  If you’ve seen one, then you know what I’m talking about.  If you haven’t, you’re not missing much.

The Ugly

“Basketball Wives”- This show is a bunch of ex-wives and girlfriends who are angry, bitter, and ready to fight somebody.  Need I say more?

Did I miss any shows?

Until next time, I’m just a Southern girl…in the city!

I’ve Got Nothing

I've got nothing for ya'...

No, I’m not kidding.  I have absolutely nothing for you guys today.   I had a request to talk about the State of the Union Address President Obama gave and the episode of “The Game” last night…but I’m really not in the mood.  What can I say?  I agree with the president on education, working to better the economy, and unity within the Senate (something that still needs to be worked on based on last night’s address).  And I haven’t seen the last 2 episodes of “The Game”.  I know-I need to do better.   I don’t even have a “Way Back Wednesday” post.  I’ve been dealing with my own stuff lately and haven’t thought about what to talk to you guys about.  I can tell you I have some things I’ll probably talk about on Friday, but other than that…I’m lost.  (And it probably doesn’t help that I had a 2 hour delay this morning and will probably go home early due to inclement weather on the way.)  So if there’s a topic you want me to discuss, the floor is yours.  Leave a comment, and I’ll reply.  But with keeping with the WBW theme, I’ll post the song that I have been playing all day.  It’s not that old, but I love it.  Until next time, I’m just a Southern girl…in the city!

P.S. Can I just say I really don’t like snow???

Southern Girl Show Review- The Game

I said I wasn’t going to do it…but I can’t help it!  TONS of people (at least in my Twitter timeline and my Facebook friends) were watching the season premiere of “The Game” last night on BET.  Everyone had high hopes for the show but some didn’t think that BET would do it justice, even though the same writers and cast came over.  Instead of saying what was wrong with the show, I’ll just ask some questions that ran through my head while watching the premiere.

(SPOILER ALERT:  If you haven’t seen it, you may want to skip this post…)

– Why does Melanie have such a big mouth?   Why did she take the DNA test in the first place?

– I do have love for the Bruhs (Coleman Love) but why was Terrence all over the TV screen with Tasha Mack last night?  Who is his character?  Is he a regular??? And WTH was Rick Fox???

– Speaking of love interests, WTH was Stacey Dash?  Actually, it’s probably a good thing she wasn’t in this episode.  Jason had too much to deal with.

– WTH happened to Kelly??? Although I love her new look (clothes notwithstanding), her new attitude has got to go. I know she was bitter about Jason choosing Camille and Tasha introducing them but that doesn’t mean she has to become a Grade A diva.  She’s the EXTREME of these ex-wives and ex-girlfriends we see on these reality shows.  It’s the worst…

-What happened to Brittany??? I do not like this new girl (no, it’s not the same Brittany).  She’s too grown and needs a good butt-whooping.  She’s on her way to becoming a(n) old Nicole Richie, Paris Hilton, or Kim Kardashian.

– I totally understand Malik being pissed he’s not the franchise player anymore.  I get that he’s pissed at the Sabers General Manager. But to be sleeping with his wife?  And can I just mention I really don’t like Meagan Goode.  Real talk, I haven’t liked her since “Eve’s Bayou”…

– Are we really surprised that Malik ended up with T.T.’s girl, Allison? I think not.

– Although Melanie is wrong for her actions (did I mention that already?), Janay did the ULTIMATE no-no when she went and bought the bag JUST LIKE Melanie’s!!!!

– Speaking of Mel, why can’t she just leave well enough alone?  She has her man, they’re famous, and he’s the star player.  She created this mess now she’s got to deal with it.  And she chose to marry a man that had a baby.  I really just want to slap her.  She’s always causing unnecessary drama.

Ok, that’s all I’ve got for today.  My final assessment of the the Season 4 premiere?  Overacting, too dramatic, and too much.  And ya’ll know I love “The Game”.  But I’m just really disappointed with what I saw last night. I’m hoping it gets better as the season goes on, but I feel like the show lost the essence it had on the CW.  It’s not the same.  Oh, and the only person who has TRULY grown in these past two years is Derwin.  And maybe Tasha (but I miss Foxy!!!)  I know you all have thoughts, and I’m DYING to hear (well, read) what you think!  Until next time, I’m just a Southern girl… in the city!

P.S. I didn’t like Sheree’s cameo. Was I supposed to know who the big bronze woman playing Ashley was? And if Kelsey Grammar (with his racist self) was involved, do you think the show would have been better????

The Return of “The Game”

LOVE them! 🙂

Everyone is anxiously awaiting the return of “The Game” to BET, which premieres next Tuesday.  BET even had a marathon of the show this weekend, complete with an overload of commercials announcing the return of the show, behind-the-scenes clips, and interviews with the cast.  I just hope BET isn’t setting us up for failure.

Now, if you’re like me and watch “The Game” every time it comes on BET, I’m sure you’ve noticed how they delete words like “B!tch”, “Ho”, and words such as that.  This little tidbit makes me think that maybe I shouldn’t be so excited about the return of this show.  I mean, if they edit words such as that, which aren’t my favorite, but seem to be a staple on television, is BET going to have the writers water down other things from the show, too?

I must say I am proud of BET for picking up “The Game” and giving it a new home, but I hope that we are not getting our hopes up for nothing.  What do you guys think?  Are my worries unwarranted?  Are you happy about the return of “The Game”, even with it being on BET?  And are you happy that it appears BET is stepping up their game on programming?  Until next time, I’m just a Southern girl…in the city!

2010 Done Right

We all know there are some people who had an AMAZING year (heck, we might be those people), and we hope that they continue to grow, flourish, and prosper in the new year.  So let’s get started.

1. Michael Vick– Let’s face it-this guy has the comeback story of 2010.  When people doubted him and still weren’t feeling him, Mike Vick came back and showed us all that people can change.  He’s had an amazing year, and even though the Eagles lost last night to the Vikings, Vick’s still on cloud 9.  Everybody wants to ride the Michael Vick train now…well, maybe not everybody…

2. The Tea Party- Let’s face it, this right-wing extremists have convinced the nation that President Obama is messing up the country and people to vote for them during mid-term elections.  Even the newly-elected South Carolina governor, Nikki Haley, is a member of the Tea Party, even though she is an Indian American and it is “rumored” they can be racist.  And although the Tea Party is not officially a national political party, the movement has caused quite a stir and they have been very successful with getting their followers elected this past November.  It will be interesting to see what occurs in 2011.

3. R. Kelly and Roman Polanski– Let’s face it; these “Chester the Molester”s (as I’ve nicknamed them) got off pretty easy in 2010.  Although Roman Polanski, the Polish-French director, pled guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor in 1977, he fled the US the next year before he could be official sentenced by the judge.  After months of being under house arrest after being detained in Switzerland in 2009, Polanski was found to be a free man after the Swiss authorities declared him to be a “free man”.  The US and the state of California have been trying forever to get Polanski back so he can be sentenced and charged with all 6 counts on the original indictment.  And R. Kelly is definitely another comeback kid.  Although found innocent at trial, in the court of public opinion (and those who saw the tape), R. Kelly was with that girl.  But this dude was able to dust himself off, write some new material, and comeback with a bang.  I have to admit the man is talented, but I won’t be buying any R. Kelly albums.

4. The cast of “The Game”- Ok, so technically new episodes of “The Game” don’t come on until Jan. 11, 2011, but I, along with every other fan of this show, is so GEEKED we finally get to see what happened after the Season 3 finale.  This was one show that had a predominant black cast, had substance, had a following, and went off the air, leaving us with major cliffhangers.  For almost 2 years, fans have been pressuring BET (or somebody) to pick this show back up.  All that hard work paid off.  I am VERY excited to see this show come back in 2011.  I just hope BET does it justice.

Who do you think had a great 2010?  What are you looking forward to in the new year?  Until next time, I’m just a Southern girl…in the city!
