Elle’s Southern Style Happy Hour

If you follow me on Twitter, I know you were probably expecting my post about Demetria Lucas’ book.  Well, I decided to save that.  I actually want to read the book again so the topics are fresh on my mind when I write the review.

Today, I’m going to do a bit of self-promotion!  As I’m sure you know, if you follow me on Twitter or Facebook, I’m hosting another happy hour next Friday, July 22 at XII Restaurant and Lounge, located in the H Street Corridor in northeast DC.  Honestly, I had a lot of ideas on what I wanted my next happy hour to encompass after the one I hosted in May, but I wasn’t sure how to market the happy hour the way I wanted.  I will say after consulting with a few friends and colleagues, I heard a lot of, “The guys will come if the women are there”.

So, to my male readers in the DMV, let me tell you the women will be there!!! 🙂  Trust me!  My friends and readers have already started RSVP’ing (you can too, here), and people are genuinely excited about coming!  I also found out that two other events are occuring that night at XII (a book signing and a performance), so it’s sure to be an evening filled with all types of great people in the area.  And because I always need something extra, there will even be specialty Southern drinks on the menu! 🙂

I invite you all to come hang out with your favorite Southern Belle next week.  If you missed me in May, this will be the perfect time for us to get acquaintanted.  Most of us go to happy hour anyway, but we always hang out at the same places.  It’s always fun to venture out from the norm to see what else is out there.  Who knows?  You may find a new spot in DC!  Until next time, I’m just a Southern girl…in the city!

I’m Hosting a Happy Hour!

Happy Tuesday!  In case we’re not connected via Facebook or Twitter you probably don’t know that I’m hosting a happy hour this Thursday!  May 26 marks the one year anniversary of my blog, and to thank you guys for your support, I’m hosting an event at Jin Lounge so I can meet all of you and thank you in person.  And honestly, it’s been a while since I’ve hung out and attended happy hour in the District, so I figure what better reason do I need to celebrate!  Doors open at 5:30, and there are happy hour specials until 8:00.  If you’ve never been to Jin, then you’ve missed out on great cocktails and amazing appetizers!

Jin is located at 2017 14th St NW, between U and V Sts. NW, right in the middle of the U St. Corridor.  To RSVP for the event, check it out here on Facebook.  I can’t wait to meet all of you this Thursday!  Until next time, I’m just a Southern girl…in the city!

P.S. I have a really big announcement (no, I’m not engaged and I’m not moving!), so you have to make sure you’re there to hear the news firsthand!

Color of Tech Happy Hour

As this is the week of events on SGITC (I just came up with that last night!), today’s highlight will be about an upcoming Happy Hour that will be happening in our nation’s capital on tomorrow evening.

Marcus Finley, a great friend of mine whom I’ve mentioned here before, has started a group on Meetup.com.  This group, entitled Color of Tech, is “bringing together people of color in the DMV who are passionate about web development, tech entrepreneurship, green technologies, and social media on a monthly basis. We will swap stories and ideas, create new relationships, and forge great business partnerships.”  Marcus asked yours truly to serve as a co-organizer for the very first Happy Hour, and I was only too happy to oblige!  If you’re in the DMV, are a “Techie”, and are looking to network with people who have the same interest as you, I highly suggest you attend this event.  The event is tomorrow evening at Barcode, located at 1101 17th St. NW, and it starts at 6 pm.  If you can’t make it out, join the group on Meetup and be kept in the loop of upcoming events.

I love seeing young professionals come together for a cause, and it’s always great to see people doing something different.  Even if you’re not into technology, web development, or social media, I highly suggest you come anyway.  I believe you can never have too many contacts; plus, you never know where your life may take you.  You may end up needing someone for a collaboration!  Until next time, I’m just a Southern girl…in the city!
