To say that 2013 has been an interesting year is an understatement.  I’ve had some amazing things happen this year- the centennial celebration of my beloved sorority and the 10 year anniversary of my initiation into my sorority, I met my Godson for the first time during Easter weekend and his Christening, vacation and time well spent with family, my crowning as Ms. District of Columbia Exquisite and being 1st Runner-Up in the Exquisite International Pageant, becoming an official journalist, and most importantly, having my health, a job, and a roof over my head.  I have also been witness to the awesome things that have happened in the lives of my family and friends-entering graduate programs, weddings, births, and engagements (seriously, like at least 10 people that I know have gotten engaged  within the last 2 weeks).  God has truly blessed those around me.  There have also been some things that I would like to forget, so I won’t mention them. 🙂

As you know, I don’t do resolutions; I do goals for the new year.  Five years ago next month (well, really tomorrow) I set a goal for myself to move to Washington, DC by the end of the year.  By the end of the following month, Southern Mom and I were driving to Washington, DC so I could start my new job.  I have done a lot of growing and searching during my time in our nation’s capital-probably more than I could have done in Florida, or anywhere else for that matter.  The time has come for me to make some tough decisions regarding the next steps I want to take with my life.  And because I’m trying to work on my procrastination, I have already started.   I am so excited to see what 2014 has in store for me.  And for some fantastical things happen for me and those around me.

In short, I wish you all an amazing new year.  If you go out tonight, be safe!  And remember that God has some wonderful things in store for you.  Until next time (and year), I’m just a Southern girl…in the city!
