Four More Years…

To say that I am happy that President Obama won re-election is the understatement of the century.  To say that I am happy that the 2012 Election Season is over is the 2nd understatement of the century.  I was SO tired of seeing commercials related to Virginia politics and amendments, Maryland amendments, AND presidential ads.  Now, to move onward…

Unfortunately for Republicans who in 2010 stated their main focus was to make President Obama a one term president, that is not a reality.  He is going to be around for 4 more years.  If elected officials REALLY and TRULY cared about the American people, they would do as Mr. Romney suggested in his concession speech-cross party lines and make this about people and not politics.  The only way to move this country forward is to work together.  Put whatever it is behind you to ensure that America is a country that continues to prosper.  It’s time to put all of this juvenile, petty, old-world thinking behind us and to come together as a country.

I implore all of you to reach out to your elected officials by writing a letter, an e-mail, or even visiting them.  When you go to them, voice the concerns that you have and that affect you and your family.  Don’t let them do what they want to do.  They are in office and work FOR YOU.  If an elected official is too busy to talk to you, they may not be the right person for the job.  You should at least be able to speak to someone in their office.   If your representative isn’t making the decisions that benefit you, do not re-elect them.  One thing that I think Americans take for granted and gloss over is the elections of our state and local leaders.

Arrogance nevers win.  Being respectful to your counterpart is key.  Working on a compromise is essential.  These principles not only works in politcs and government; they work in real life, too.  Until next time, I’m just a Southern girl…in the city!

PS  Can I just say a big “CONGRATULATIONS!” to my cousin that won his town council seat in Hilton Head, SC?!?!?  We are so proud of you, Marc, and know you will do great things! 🙂
