Happy Friday!  In case you didn’t know, the most important day of the whole year occurs this month…my birthday!!! 🙂  I know there’s tons of things going on in the world, but I’m going to be selfish for a bit and talk about my birthday and the addition of one page to this blog. 

This year’s birthday is a little different for me.  I’m having a party (that’s not new), but instead of asking people to give me gifts, I’m asking my friends to donate to Courtney’s House, which is a non-profit in DC that works with victims of human trafficking.  I met an employee of the agency a few months back, and after listening to their needs, I was moved to do something.  I think this will be a great way to celebrate another year of life with friends and family and give back. 

I must admit that I was having reservations about this party.  Not because of the organization or the venue or the event itself.  It’s a scary birthday. (The Big 2-9).  Yep, I’m almost 30…but we’re not going to dwell on that.  I was experiencing all of these emotions-happy, sad, nervous, apprehension-about reaching the end of my 20s.  I even told a friend that I was tempted to cancel the party because I wasn’t feeling this birthday.  But realizing that this birthday was not about me, but in fact about the numerous boys and girls that will be helped at Courtney’s House, I buckled down, came to my senses, and started the celebration up again.  If you’re in the DMV, or you just want to come in town for the celebration, send me an e-mail.  I’ll forward all of the pertinent information. 

I realize I blog about things that are going on, but I never remind you guys or I never talk about it.  So I’m about to add a calendar page to the blog.  That way you can stay in the know of what’s going on.  And since I know I don’t know everything, I would love for you guys to share things that are going on as well.  The calendar page, which will be titled “What’s Happening” (think T.I.’s song), will change each month. 

And I know what I’m getting myself for my birthday.  I can’t tell you guys (at least not right away), but if done well and correctly, the pay-off could be great, in more ways than one!
