As this is the week of events on SGITC (I just came up with that last night!), today’s highlight will be about an upcoming Happy Hour that will be happening in our nation’s capital on tomorrow evening.
Marcus Finley, a great friend of mine whom I’ve mentioned here before, has started a group on Meetup.com. This group, entitled Color of Tech, is “bringing together people of color in the DMV who are passionate about web development, tech entrepreneurship, green technologies, and social media on a monthly basis. We will swap stories and ideas, create new relationships, and forge great business partnerships.” Marcus asked yours truly to serve as a co-organizer for the very first Happy Hour, and I was only too happy to oblige! If you’re in the DMV, are a “Techie”, and are looking to network with people who have the same interest as you, I highly suggest you attend this event. The event is tomorrow evening at Barcode, located at 1101 17th St. NW, and it starts at 6 pm. If you can’t make it out, join the group on Meetup and be kept in the loop of upcoming events.
I love seeing young professionals come together for a cause, and it’s always great to see people doing something different. Even if you’re not into technology, web development, or social media, I highly suggest you come anyway. I believe you can never have too many contacts; plus, you never know where your life may take you. You may end up needing someone for a collaboration! Until next time, I’m just a Southern girl…in the city!
Great idea Toya! I wish I could come but I’m glad you’re out there doing big things! =)
