It’s Friday. A lot has happened this week, so let’s get right into it.
First, condolences go out to the family of Elizabeth Edwards. The estranged wife of John Edwards died this past Tuesday due to breast cancer. After being diagnosed, Edwards because an advocate for universal health care and for cancer patients. Mrs. Edwards defintely made her mark on the American people and will be missed.
The day after Edwards passed, it was reported and later confirmed that the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Her family has asked the public and fans for their prayers for the singer.
Looks like President Obama’s party is going against him. House Democrats voted down the president’s proposal on the extension of Bush tax cuts. It seems that most caucus members are upset they were not consulted with the changes and feel like it’s too generous to the wealthy. I wonder if this is a case of our politicians working for their constituents or a low blow to some egos…
Make sure you pay your taxes, people, because if you don’t, you could end up like Wesley Snipes. As I’m sure you’ve heard by now, the “Blade” and “To Wong Foo” star is going to federal prison for three years for tax evasion. If you have an accountant, you better make sure they’re doing their job, because saying “I didn’t know” may not fly in front of the judge.
Last night, Barbara Walters interviewed Oprah Winfrey. And ya’ll know Ms. Winfrey doesn’t do interviews all willy-nilly. I missed most of it, but the part I did see was pretty good. Oprah wants God to use her until her uses her up (words inspired by the Bill Withers song). That’s pretty much what I got from the last 5 minutes I saw, which I think is pretty significant. I’ll never take away from the success and great things that Oprah has accomplished, I just don’t think she makes her shows for me. And I’ll leave it at that…
Alright folks, that’s all I’ve got. Feel free to mention anything I missed and/or comment on anything I shared. Enjoy your weekend, and stay warm. Appartently it’s cold EVERYWHERE! Until next time, I’m just a Southern girl…in the city!
P.S. I COMPLETELY forgot to mention that the love of my life, Prince Rogers Nelson (ya’ll might know him simply as Prince) made a surprise appearance on “The View” yesterday. Although brief, his visit sure stirred up the audience…and Sherri. He gave all the ladies tickets and looked like he was about to get comfortable until Sherri Shepard said she always wanted to sleep with him. Prince hopped up like he was on fire and ran from the set!
