Becoming a Better Elle

I’m the girl that always has a smile on my face and is Ms. Social Butterfly.  I love being around my friends, being in the know, and being involved.   It’s very rare John Q. Public will see me sad, unhappy, or mad.  And you definitely won’t see me arguing with anyone.  I like everyone to be happy and avoid conflict like the plague.  My need to be the “go-to” girl and keeping everyone happy has not always been beneficial for me.  I spend money when I shouldn’t, don’t speak up when people do me wrong, and don’t always tell people “no”.   As I’ve gotten older, I can say that I have grown and am working on becoming a better person.

I had to attack my spending habits.  I’m currently working with a counselor to get myself back on track, and I’m so excited.  I see the light at the end of the tunnel and know that it’s not as hard as I thought it would be.   I have learned to tell some people “no”, but it’s not always easy.  I also had to come to terms with the fact that I can’t do everything that I want to do.  For example, one of my FAVORITE linesisters is getting married NYE in Miami, and I can’t go.  Did ya’ll hear me???  MIAMI!!! On New Year’s Eve.  I haven’t even sent my regret yet, because I’m still partly in denial that I’m not going.   But once I address this problem, I’ll be able to go do fun stuff, like Miami (really ANYWHERE) on New Year’s Eve.  But I digress…

I’m telling people “no”, and I’m learning to speak up more.  If I have a problem with someone or something, I address it.  Case in point, I wasn’t sure how a particular young man felt about me, and I got tired of this roller coaster.  So what did I do?  I sent him an e-mail (Yes, I admit that wasn’t the best way to handle it, but I was a little chicken…). In any event, he responded (quite favorably I might add), and I’m glad he did.   We’re both on the same page, and hopefully this will be the beginning of something great.

Lastly, I’ve addressed my weight before (here), so I’ve decided to do something about it.  So far I’ve lost a total of 11 pounds (GO ME!), and I plan on continuing to lose weight.

I’m excited about the changes I’ve made and continue to make.  So, what plans do you have to become a better you?  Do you want to go to school, become a business owner, manage your money better, etc.?  Share your stories here.  And what encouraging words do you have for me, eh, I mean the other readers?! 😉  Until next time, I’m just a Southern girl…in the city!
