This week has been full of up and downs, tragedies and triumphs, and I’m going to dicuss some of them today. My 101st post (in my mind) was going to be my encouragement to you all to go out and vote on Tuesday. But I’ll save that for next week. Not saying it’s not important (because it is), but that’s not what I want to talk about today.
First, congratulations must go out to Mr. and Mrs. Nick Cannon. If you haven’t heard, they’re expecting!!! YAY! I love babies! I trust and hope Mariah has a wonderful pregnancy with no complications and that they have a beautiful, happy, and healthy baby.
Next up, kudos go out to Officer Feris Jones of NYPD. If you haven’t heard, Officer Jones stopped a would-be robber when she was getting her hair done last Saturday. She was able to disarm the robber and shot the door handle, which momentarily stopped the man from escaping. Police were able to track down the the assailant, so he is off the streets. I would like to say “Thank you” to Officer Jones. No, I don’t know her and no, I don’t live in NY, but for her to stop this robber without any casualties is amazing. You always hear these stories and someone ends up dying. Justice will be served and no one had to lose his or her life. And Officer Jones will be promoted on Tuesday!
I don’t know how I missed this last week (probably because I don’t really follow this person), but Jawn Murray, an entertainment reporter, came under fire when he stated via Twitter, “All those militant-nappy-headed #AngryBlackWomen who didn’t think @tylerperry was worthy of doing #ForColoredGirls can #KickRocks!” If you think that was bad, his follow-up comment takes it a step further- “So a few militant-nappy-headed #AngryBlackWomen are mad I used ‘nappy-headed’ earlier. Do me a favor = Get a LIFE & Get a PERM! How’s that?” Really….REALLY!?!?! To be honest, I’m not sure if I should be offended by his statement. I mean, I am a black woman who is natural and have 2nd guessed Tyler Perry doing “For Colored Girls”…but I would question just about anybody doing that. He has a lot of hostility; I wonder why. He did issue an apology, but the damage is done.
Next, here is the most recent news regarding Mitrice Richardson. Come to find out, her remains were moved without the consent of the correct person from the coroner’s office. Like her family, I hope that LASD rules her death as a homicide. Her killer needs to be found and quick.
Are you happy for Mariah and Nick? Will you be congratulating Officer Jones on Tuesday? And how you do feel about Jawn Murray’s comments and the new developments surrounding Mitrice’s disappearance? Enjoy your weekend! Until next time, I’m just a Southern girl…in the city.
(As I’m writing this, one of my co-workers asked a good question-What happened to Eddie Long???)
Very happy for Nick and Mariah! I’ve been cheering for them since the beginning. I don’t know either, but they seem genuinely happy together. Relationships outside the public eye are hard enough, so I’m sure being in the spotlight makes things tougher.
WHATEVER @ Jawn Murray! I ain’t got it for him. He makes me want to say really, really bad things, but I’ll refrain! Bye boy!
