This Week in the News

It’s hot as Hades in the District. Like so hot I don’t even want to walk to my car.  I think the high has been at least 95 degrees all week.  This is ridiculous! At least in Florida we had  some sea breeze.  I don’t remember living anywhere where it’s been this hot.  In any event, let’s move on to this week’s news.

First, not that I’m a big basketball fan, but King James made a decision to go to Miami.  Some are thrilled, some are pissed, and some really could care less.  I have to admit I got caught up in the hype.  When my girl Original Najeema called and asked me to meet her to watch the special I thought, “What the heck?” So after the big announcement, everyone in the bar went back to their conversations and the bartender turned up the music.  And I’m not sure how many of you have heard, but a DC man, Leicester Stovall, is claiming to be LeBron’s biological dad.  This attorney has filed a suit against LeBron and his family claiming they know he is LeBron’s dad but have avoided taking a paternity test for years.  Yeah, ok…next story.  I think this man is just trying to get on the LeBron bandwagon…

I will be the first to admit I don’t keep up on my National news like I should, so when I began seeing the name Oscar Grant everyone I started to do some research.   Turns out Oscar Grant was an unarmed 22 year old man who was shot by an Oakland BART officer on New Year’s Day last year.  I encourage you to read up on the exact facts of the event, but the verdict came in yesterday of the officer who was accused of killing this young father and he was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter.  Many feel that this is not justice for Mr. Grant, and there were many protests in the city of Oakland after the verdict was read.  Seeing the little bit that I did I don’t really think it is, either.

I’m a little sick of Lindsay Lohan, so I’ll keep this brief.  She’s been sentenced to 90 days in jail and 90 days in rehab for probation violation.  I truly hope this young lady gets the help she deserves and bounces back to have a long, prosperous career.

Lastly, I just want to thank you all for your support.  This week I have seen a spike in traffic, and I just want to thank my friends and family for your support.  I will continue to keep you engaged, entertained, and enlightened.  If there is a topic you would like for me to touch on or if you have any questions you want to ask, feel free to e-mail me at evolvingelle@yahoo.com.  We may have an “Ask Elle” post in the future. 🙂  I know there are tons of things going on that I omitted (i.e. this BP oil spill mess still going on, World Cup action, Prince and his comments about the death of the internet), so share your thoughts.  Until next time, I’m just a Southern girl…in the city.
