DC Jazz Festival 2010

The DC Jazz Festival, formerly known as the Duke Ellington Jazz Festival, is the biggest jazz festival in the District.  This year from June 1-13, residents and guests have plenty of opportunities to tour the city and listen to great jazz artists in various venues.   The committee even scheduled family friendly activities as well as those special places that you may want to take that special guy or girl.  And don’t worry, there’s also something for everyone’s budget! Some of this year’s performers include Roberta Flack, Brand Linde Quartet, Claudio Roditi Quartet, Richard Miller Trio, and many other notable and international acts.

One thing I enjoyed last year was travelling to the Phillips Collection Museum near Dupont Circle and having a chance to look at some amazing art and listening to some great jazz.  It was my first time attending, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself.  And I might add that it was one of my first times navigating the Metro system by myself, so I feel very proud!!!  Maybe this year I’ll pick a spot or 2 and invite my friends along.  If you live in the District or will be here visiting, feel free to check out the website to view the schedule and see when your favorite artist is going to perform.  Also, if you plan on purchasing tickets, make sure you get them quickly as they have a tendency to sell out quickly!!  Until next time, I’m just a Southern girl…in the city.
